The face behind the chats: first ever Tunza team meeting in 7 yrs

JANUARY 13-16TH 2023

Seven years ago, a group of women from different parts of Kenya and different walks of life met on Facebook, brought together by their shared experience of motherhood. They formed a close-knit online community, sharing stories, advice, and support as they navigated the challenges of raising children in a rapidly changing world.
Over the years, these women - Thitu, Akoth, Ireen, Emba, and DJ Celine - became more than just online acquaintances. They were confidants, cheerleaders, and friends. They shared the joys and sorrows of motherhood, celebrated each other's triumphs, and provided a listening ear during the tough times.
Yet, despite the strong bonds they had formed online, the women had never met in person. That is, until a few weeks ago, when they finally had the chance to gather together on a beach in Tiwi Mombasa.
The women were ecstatic as they embraced each other for the first time, like children running around them, splashing in the waves. They talked and laughed as they shared stories from their lives, and reminisced about the moments they had shared over the years. For these women, it was like meeting old friends after years apart.
As they sat on the beach, soaking up the sun and enjoying the breeze, the women talked about the future of their Facebook group. They brainstormed new ideas for content, ways to reach out to more mothers, and plans for future meetups.
For these women, the experience was transformative. They had always known that their Facebook group was special, but meeting each other in person made it all the more real. They had created a community of support and friendship that spanned the country, and their bonds had only grown stronger with time.
As they packed up their things and prepared to leave the beach, the women hugged each other tightly, promising to stay in touch and continue to support each other in the years to come. For Thitu, Akoth, Ireen, Emba, and DJ Celine, the experience was a reminder of the power of community and the importance of friendship. And for the rest of us, it is an inspiring reminder of the bonds that can be formed online, and the incredible relationships that can grow out of them.
